Abstract
Renal transplantation in children was increased graduallyby improved operation success rate, excellent quality of life and acceralate increment of height aftertransplantation. Twenty patietns(<16 years old) were old) were treated with rnal
trans-plantation from Nov. 1, 1979 to May 31, 1992 at Seveance hospital, Yonsei Universtiy college of Medicine and followed through Sep. 30, 1992 All patients were accepted from living donor; ten from related donor (LRD) and ten unrelatedonor
(LURD).
The authors evaluated clinical status, including height increment and psychoemotional state after renal transplantation. Sex ratio of recipients were composed of 16 males and 4 females, and the mean age was 11.1 years old(range; 7~15). The
leading
causes of renal failure were Alport's syndrome in 3 patients, chronic pyelonephritis with hydronephrosis in 2, congenital hypoplasia I 1, VUR in 2 and Chronic glomerulonephritis in 12. Among 20 patients, 6 were undertaken by renal transplantation
with
bilateral nephrectomy and by renal transplantation with right nephrectomy in 2. Immuno-suppression after transplantation was with CsA and prednisone in 18 patients, and with AZA and prednisone in 2. Height acceralation(catch-up growth) was
appeared
in 7
among 20 patients, but was delayed in the remaining 13 patients and the chronologic age was more than 12 years old in 6 among remaining 13 patients. School performance(including adjustment) tended to average or overaverage in 12 among 15
patients.
